Coming from an ‘all year round’ tropical weather, averaging 25°C – 28°C of sunshine, is the fruit Sapodilla also known as Chikoo, home to Mexico. Picture yourself eating the flavour of caramel, but the caramel is creamy and custard like in texture and not so sweet. This tropical fruit that once was home to Mexico, has now crossed the ocean and has residence to many countries in the southeast Asia, Caribbean and beyond.
Used as traditional medicines to aid with skin care and digestive issues to symbolic representations of abundance and fertility, This fruit is packed with both goodness and rich history.
Light brown in colour and around 5-10 cm in diameter, the skin of the fruit is still edible, but is not as sweet as the flesh.
